What are the differences between BPOS and Office 365?

Office 365 includes the services you’re familiar with, along with new online services. Your subscriptions will be transitioned to Office 365. See the following table for a comparison of Business Productivity Online Standard Suite and Office 365.

*If you use Microsoft Office Live Meeting in BPOS, you can continue to use Office Live Meeting after transition. Additional key points:

Lync Online: Lync Online and Lync replace Office Live Meeting and Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2. You can continue to use Office Live Meeting, but Office Communicator 2007 R2 is not supported in Office 365. With Lync, you can exchange instant messages (IMs), initiate audio and video conferencing, and see presence information for your colleagues.
Microsoft SharePoint Online Deskless Worker: SharePoint Online Deskless Worker is not available in Office 365.
Windows Azure platform and Windows Intune: These services are not part of BPOS, so you will continue to manage them in the same manner as you always have after your transition to Office 365. You will not manage these services in the Office 365 portal.

Transition to Office 365

When you transition, Microsoft will move your data to Office 365. You and your users also have tasks to complete for transition. As the administrator, you need to do the following to ensure the best transition experience: ADT will be with you throughout this process.

Complete key administrator tasks: Make sure that your client software is compliant with the Office 365 system requirements and configure any new features and capabilities in Office 365.
Assist your users: Your users also have key tasks, and it is important to ensure that they complete all of them before and after transition. Your users may also need assistance with learning about Office 365 services and features.
